Blue Roads, Red Wine
Words and music by Tom May

This has kind of become my theme song; a celebration of this interesting 40+ years of singing, writing, traveling and enjoying! The original idea came from one of my favorite books; William Least Heat Moon’s "Blue Highways".

Chorus
Blue roads, red wine, and a rose scented woman, that’s all this old fool needs
Just the blue roads, red wine, on a cold Wyoming morning, and a few good books to read

Verse 1
In the shadow of Mt. Rainier, a voice whispers soft and clear, of the promise of a young man whose miles have gone too fast
As that mountain fades from view, I wonder what became of you,
When my only hearts desire, took me home to you at last

Chorus
Blue roads, red wine, and a rose scented woman, that’s all this old fool needs
Just the blue roads, red wine, on a cold Dakota morning, and a few good books to read

Verse 2
Through the eyes of my only son, I remember 21; two lane roads so carefree, and my heart belonged to none
Never mind the broke down cars, just my thumb would get me far
Past abandoned routes and railways, to where the wild deer still run

Chorus
Blue roads, red wine, and a rose scented woman, that’s all this old fool needs
Just the blue roads, red wine, on a cold Nebraska morning, and a few good books to read

Verse 3
Now the years have disappeared, like my taste for lager beer; I’ve borrowed to the limit, to live the life I’ve had
From the bedrooms to the bars, Tasting life from a mason jar
Heading back to old Montana, when the weather gets too bad….

Chorus
Blue roads, red wine, and a rose scented woman, that’s all this old fool needs
Just the blue roads, red wine, on a cold Wyoming morning, and a few good books to read
