Taking It Slow
Words and Music by Tom May
(Originally released on the Iris Records album. Vignette (out of print) 1978)
It’s finally happened, I’ve met someone else
Who makes me feel 24 again
Like a kid in a cradle who’s rockin away
With no thoughts of beginnins’ or ends
She’s been through the sawmill, a couple of times
And like me she’s been cut right in two
But to look at her face you would argue that fact
And to my eyes, she’s shinin’ like new
So by chance if some changes should open the way
There’s just one thing I’d like you to know
I’m not askin’ for nothing but the hours that we share
Cause this time I’m takin’ it slow
Well I’ve known many women, and I’ve seen many times
When the silence would deafen my ears
And when they had left and I was all by myself
My motives were never quite clear
But when I’m with you and we talk as we do
I seldom do wonder at all
About meanings, or time, or that long crooked line
On the highway that gives me my call
So by chance if some changes should open the way
There’s just one thing I’d like you to know
I’m not askin’ for nothing but the hours that we share
Cause this time I’m takin’ it slow
