When His Lesson's Learned
Words and Music by Tom May

It still hasn't been learned.

Where the tall corn grows
And the Plains winds blow through my land
She stands alone waiting for her man
And though he's far away
She hopes that someday he'll return
To be by her side when his lesson's learned

When the morning comes
And the sun is rising in the sky
The prairie's still is broken by a gentle sigh
For as she walks alone
Through the fields of a late-sewn winter wheat
She wonders when and if again they'll meet

'Cause the fields just don't look the same Ever since he's been gone
And the lake where they used to swim seems empty without his songs

She goads her horse to run
As the sun sets upon another day
Silence reigns as night comes back to stay
She hears his song As the stars fly along that summer sky
And the prairie's soul listens to it's offspring cry

'Cause the fields just don't look the same Ever since he's been gone
And the lake where they used to swim seems empty without his songs

Where the tall corn grows
And the Plains winds blow through my land
She stands alone waiting for her man
And though he's far away
She hopes that someday he'll return
To be by her side when his lesson's learned

To be by her side when his lesson's learned
